WillEdit: Editing, Proofreading, and Writing Services
Bio & Qualifications:
I've earned a Bachelor's degree in English from Bloomsburg University, a Master's degree in English from Bucknell University, and finished my Ph.D. in English at Lehigh University in 2011. You can see the details of my professional career in the Vita and Work Experience portion of this site, or Contact Me for a full curriculum vita.
I have thirteen years’ experience teaching Composition at the University level, including Developmental Writing Courses, literature courses, and advanced composition and research courses.
I have done private tutoring for high-school level English (College Preparatory, Honors, and Advance Placement courses), as well as helping students prepare for the SAT Writing section.
I have worked as a freelance professional copyeditor and proofreader since 2012.
As I always tell my students, suggestions or changes I make on your manuscript are never the final word, so to speak. You have the final say regarding what you publish. Therefore I do not want or require a credit for any work I do on your manuscript, with the knowledge that you may later decide to change my work or even disregard it. That is your prerogative as a writer.
What you get: professional, one-on-one attention to your manuscript. This is not mass-production, this is individualized work accepted only as my time permits.
Copyediting is “checking written material for grammar, spelling, style, and punctuation issues before it’s prepared for proofreading” (Grammarly.com). Style here refers to unifying and solidifying a writer’s voice, and checking to be sure the work is clear and understandable.
Proofreading means that the submitted work is intended to be a final product, already edited and ready for publication. Proofreading scans for minor typographical and/or basic formatting errors. Basic formatting here refers to proper use of paragraphs, generally accepted spacing, etc.
Manuscript evaluation means I read your manuscript and respond to it as a fresh set of eyes. You’ll receive a detailed, written evaluation response, including specific points of reference in your work, and general suggestions for revision.
If you want to proceed with Substantive Editing or Rewriting I’ve suggested in a Manuscript evaluation, but would like another writer to revise/change your manuscript, I offer those services, too. The increased cost per word compensates me for the extra time I will take to craft those revisions with your style and purpose in mind. Again, because I may edit, condense, or remove portions of your work, words are counted on submission, not on the final product.
Basic Copyediting, fiction, blog posts, etc. : $0.02 per word
Basic copyediting, technical/theoretical language: $0.03 per word
Copyediting/revision for jargon, wordiness, transitions, etc.: $0.04 per word
Manuscript evaluation/feedback: $50/hour
Substantive Editing/Rewriting: $0.07 per word
I do not offer translation services or layout preparation, e.g. Kindle formatting. I do not fact check or research any material in your manuscript.
